Breaking: Police confirm 11 dead, 13 injured in renewed bandits’ attack in Katsina

Authority of the Nigerian Police Force, Katsina State Command, has confirmed the earlier report on bandits’ attack which claimed lives leaving others injured and houses burnt.

Confirming the incident, the police image maker of Katsina State, SP Gambo Isah said the bandits in their numbers with AK-47 riffles, invaded Yanturaku Quarters, Batsari local government area of the State, killed 11 and injured 13 persons.

According to him, “Yesterday 09/11/2021 at about 1915hrs, bandits in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK-47 rifles, attacked Katoge and Yanturaku quarters of Batsari LGA, murdered eleven (11) and injured thirteen (13) persons.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina state Command, has deployed Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of operations, with additional units of PMF personnel to the area to beef up security and restore confidence in the affected communities” PPRO said.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have early hours of today, Wednesday, killed seven persons and injured scores of others in a renewed attack on communities in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The attack, which occurred Tuesday evening and lasted into the early hours of Wednesday, still saw dozens of houses and vehicles set ablaze.

No less than five communities were said to have been struck by the armed men, while there were speculations also the death toll and number of those injured may rise.

It was learned that the gunmen stormed the neighborhoods in their scores, equipped with sophisticated weapons.

In each of the communities invaded, the gunmen were said to have fired sporadically into the air to register their presence before going from house to house, looting victims of valuables and harassing residents.

According to a source, “The bandits slaughtered seven persons, while it injured dozens of others during the attack.”

One of the victims killed by the gunmen, suspected to be a lawyer, Barr. Nura Hassan Wagine.

The source added that several of the victims were trying to escape from the onslaught of the marauding gunmen when they sustained injuries.

He also stated that there were fears the number of those slaughtered and injured could be higher, even as efforts were ongoing by community members to determine the extent of damage.

He added that details of what happened would be difficult to get for now, because of the lack of a mobile network in the area.

Furthermore, he, however, revealed that they would know later such details as some people whose communities were affected, have gone there from Katsina town to see things for themselves.

As at the time of filling in this report, spokesperson of the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, is yet to confirm the incident.”
