SWS FCT EXCO inaugurated, set to empower girl-child

The President of the Standup for Women Society, SWS, Barr. Deborah Ijadele-Adetona, has called on Nigerian Women not to accept the word ‘Impossible’ as everything is possible with determination.

She made the call while inaugurating the FCT SWS Executives at the Tangier Hotel, Abuja.

In her two page address, she called on Nigerian Women to wake up to their responsibilities of being caregivers, adding that every woman must pick an enclave to touch lives.

A statement by the inaugurated Secretary of the women group, FCT, Princess Joy Omagha Idam noted the President commended the Executives of the FCT for starting with the Empowerment Project, adding that it summarizes SWS objectives.

Earlier in her welcome address the Chairperson Lib Fatima Ibrahim-Iyal, called on Nigerians to always make out time to run a general body check up, to determine their health status.

She announced cash donations of #10,000 to 20 beneficiaries and a sewing machine to Mrs Bridget Chukwu the widow of Engineer Ifeanyi Chukwu who slumped and died because of high blood pressure.

The Speaker, Amb Evelyn Eyo-Honesty Ogbogu who is the National Coordinator, Child Education and Crime Eradication Foundation, CECEF, called on the 11 States yet to Domesticate the Child Rights Act, to do so as soon as possible as they cannot continue to pay lip service to issues affecting the Girl Child.

Amb Ogbogu noted that women have been tagged liabilities but assured Nigerians that every woman is an asset in her family and noted that the time to develop and empower Girl Child is now.

Amb Evelyn Ogbogu stated that the theme “Women Are Assets Not Liabilities: Develop the Girl Child and Empower the Women” is timely as she announced CECEF will partner SWS in the future and invited them to its 21st anniversary.

Side attractions included health talks from Grace Oshinyemi of Jigsimur, Mary Lawani of Imerri and Spax Republic, all spoke on the importance of taking care of self as a woman and financial benefits of keying into the products.

The National President SWS presented the sewing machine to a representative of the family, Ms Asari Edet, while the Zonal Coordinator Ladi Dinci Emmanuel gave the cash support to the recipients.

While commending the FCT Chapter, she urged the inaugurated executives to be united and stay focused to achieve their goals.

Ms Asari Edet who spoke on behalf of the recipients, thanked SWS FCT chapter for the Noble act and promised to spread the good news about what SWS stands for.

Asari noted she has seen many NGOs who just pay lip service to humanity, but SWS stands out and prayed to God to bless them.
