The World Health Organization, sets aside 15th of October each year to raise awareness of the needs for handwashing as according to expert, reduces disease contractions to 25 to 50 percent.
The day trying to spread information about the importance of hygiene also aimed at to promoting and mobilizing individuals globally on the effect of handwashing.
This year’s theme is “Our Future is at Hand — Let’s Move Forward Together” was founded by the Global Handwashing Partnership.
In his remarks, Director of Public Health, Nasarawa State Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Alhassan, said he cannot overstate the Importance of the day as people across the world get in contact to know the usefulness of handwashing.
Dr. Alhassan, emphasized that handwashing is a tool that reduces diseases contraction by 25 to 50%.
He called on the public to take it as a habit, especially at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the global community.
The Public Health professional enjoined experts to strive hard in the struggle of promoting the campaign.
According to him, as the world celebrates handwashing day, everyone must have a perpetual attitude towards handwashing.
