The Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRS, with the support from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, FMHDS, and ECOWAS have donated relief materials, such as food and non-food items to 100 adversely affected 2020 flood victims in Bindawa local government area of Katsina State.
The groups have also renovated 12 houses belonging to the poorest families of the flood victims which to be handed over to, second weeks of October, as well as reviving and renovating 4 boreholes in the local government area.
Dr. Aliyu Idris Funtua who is the Branch Chairman of Katsina State Red Cross said, it was part of the intervention program of Red Cross being a humanitarian organization saying the selection of victims, especially those of the renovating houses was based on the visibility studies conducted by volunteers across Bindawa LGA.
“Our volunteers are cut across all local government areas and were on the ground to access the victims, and it was based on that we selected the poorest among to rebuild their houses which will, insha Allah, would be handed over to them next week.
“The gesture couldn’t come earlier than today due to the surge of COVID-19 across the world”, Dr. Idris Funtua said.
The 100 hundred beneficiaries are both women and men of different ages as according to the Secretary of NRS, Mr. Bala Abdullahi, due to the financial constraint, they could not reach out to all the victims of the flood disaster hence the choice of the 100 mostly affected victims from the local government.
The items distributed includes, 100 bags of rice 12 kg, 100 bags of millets 12 kg, 100 bags of maize 12 kg, 100 bags of Beans 12 kg, 100 gallons of palm oil 4ltr, and 100 gallons of palm kernel 4ltr.
Others are 100 pcs of Bathroom slippers, 300 sets of panties, 200 set of blankets, 100 sets of cups, 100 sets of buckets, 200 set detergents, 100 sets of Towels, 200 sets of sanitary pads, 200 set mats, 200 sets of Soaps, as well as Reviving and Renovating 4 boreholes and Renovating 12 Houses.
