Masari revives decompose education system from PDP led government — Katsina Education Commissioner

By Faith Awa Maji, Katsina

EDUCATION as the saying goes, is the bed rock of any developed society, however, previous governments under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Katsina State have lukewarm sights in the education of its next generation for the development of the State.

State Commissioner for Education, Associate Badamasi Lawal Charanchi, while lamenting the state of education before the coming of the present administration under Governor Masari in 2015, said that the efforts put in place to reposition the education sector, has brought the state out of the terrible performances recorded in the previous Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations, SSCE.

Charanchi said the efforts have made the students performed excellently to far with 73% of candidates having five credits and above compared to 19% recorded under past administration.

Badamasi described the 19% students’ performance in the SSCE under the previous administration as unfortunate.

He, however, noted that, the emergence of Masari as Governor in 2015 has changed the narratives.
Associate Prof. Lawal Badamasi Charanchi described the transformation of the students’ performance in SSCE as unprecedented.
He listed many factors responsible for the successful achievements to include the prioritization of teachers’ welfare, regularizing their promotions, payment of backlog arrears, teachers recruitment as well as organizing training and workshops for teachers.

The Education Commissioner, while at the usual Press briefing on activities of the State government which was resorted yesterday, Tuesday after a while, told journalists at the gathering at the State Secretariat, that the tremendous achievements in the education was due to the forthsighteness of Governor Masari.

“I am here on a visit to showcase the performance of SSCE performance of students under the regime of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, the Executive Governor of Katsina State.
“This becomes pertinent because from 2015 to 2020, we witnessed an unprecedented performance during the SSCE examination under the stewardship of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari.
“In summary, from 2008 to 2014, we met a record of 417, 576 candidates that sat for the SSCE.
“In total out of this figure, only 79,044 candidates scored 5 credits and above in any subject, which is only 19%. That was the situation we met. Meaning in every 100 students of Katsina State, that sat for SSCE examination, only 19 pass at credit level.
“This is the unfortunate situation His Excellency took over the education sector in Katsina State.
“Contrarily, during the stewardship of Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, 410,253 candidates, sat for SSCE examination. That is to say this leadership paid for all these students to sit for the SSCE examinations and the amount paid was about N4 billion and out of this figure 299,418 candidates scored five credits and above in any subject which is 73%
“Note that I reported earlier here that we met a case of 19%, but now we have an excess of 73%. Meaning in every 100 students who sat for SSCE examinations, 73 attain at credit level and out of this figure 299,253, 192,404, scored five credits including English and Mathematics.
“This is wonderful, this is unprecedented. We have never witnessed this in Katsina State All that His Excellency did in repositioning education, these result justifies the ends, meaning the ends justifies the means.
“Many things has been done. There are many variables that lead to these results. So, I believe by this presentation, the people, the press can see that Katsina State has ride on to expectations.
“When we saddled with this responsibility, HE told us he wanted to reposition education and now with this wonderful performances, education has been repositioned in Katsina State.
“When we came for the second term, it was tagged ‘next level’. So, the next level of Governor Masari’s administration in education, is the next level of dedication, commitment, resourcefulness for the betterment of these results in Katsina State,” Associate Prof. Lawal Badamasi Charanchi added.

The maiden edition of a press conference organized by the Ministry of Information at the State Secretariat on Tuesday, had State Commissioner for Information, Abdulkarim Yahaya Sirika anchoring, directors from both the ministries of Education and Information in attendance.
