Police nabbed serial government car thief in Katsina
The Katsina Police Command says it has arrested, for the third time, a 33-year-old serial car thief simply identified as Bishir Hayatu for allegedly stealing a vehicle belonging to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Gambo Isah, revealed that the recovery of the vehicle, was achieved within 40 minutes after the case was reported to the police through scientific methods within the command’s disposal.
According to the police spokesman, the suspect specializes in stealing vehicles belonging to unsuspecting public members.
The suspect and his gang were arrested when they attempted stealing a Hilux van with registration number KT 76 B01,
belonging to the office of the Secretary to the Katsina State Government at the
Government Reserved Area, GRA Mosque, Katsina
However, with the vehicle’s tracking device, the suspects who were on their way to Abuja were tracked and arrested at Dayi Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the State.
Hayatu who was reportedly arrested few months back is said to be on bail for a similar crime for which he was supposed to be serving a term in the Nigeria Correctional Services facility in the State.
He, however, denied stealing the car, saying one Sani Danmaradi from Niger Republic, invited him to Dayi Village to fix a mechanical fault in a vehicle he was driving in at the sum of N20,000.
“It was while the vehicle was being fixed that the police arrested me”, the suspect said.
