Stop claiming ownership of mineral resources — Minister warns Governors

THE Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Architect Olamilekan Adegbite has warned State Governors to stop claiming ownership of mineral resources found within their territorial jurisdiction.
He reminded State governments that mineral resources, were vested on the Federal Government to exploit on behalf0 of the Nigerian people.
The Minister also cautioned State governments against enacting legislation vis-a-vis the mining of mineral resources, in addition to the ones enacted by the Federal Government.
He noted that there must be unified legislation across the board, from the Federal government down to the local government.
Architect Olamilekan also charged State Governors to provide the enabling environment for investors to find the ease and confidence of doing business in their various States.
He again implored investors to always carry the host community along in whatever business they conduct.
The Minister gave the warning when Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State paid him a visit, Sunday, in Abuja.
While, on his part, Governor Masari blamed the lack of proper utilization of sold mineral resources in the country based on the persistent spate of insecurity bedeviling the country.
