Buhari bewail lingering banditry attacks in North-West

By Faith Awa Maji, Katsina

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has lamented over the consistent banditry attacks in the North-West region of Nigeria.

He said it is a source of concern to him noting that they are the same people, religion but keep on killing and stealing each other’s cattle and burning their villages.

“The lingering development in the North-West is the most amazing one.

“This has made it necessary for the Federal Government to change the entire security approach by redeploying soldiers and other security forces to restore peace in the affected regions”.

The President made this known while playing host to 12 visiting Governors, ex-governors and some Senators behind closed doors in his residence in Daura , Katsina State, Thursday.

He also reminded Nigerians to think about the successive governments before the coming of the present APC led administration, where insecurity in the North-East and South =South was at its peak.

Buhari further noted that people in the North-East can attest to the facts on how virtually about half of their Local Governments were occupied by the terrorists.

“It is not easy for us in this country to make people appreciate what we have gone through but if you try to discuss relating to time and resources, then you appreciate what APC Government has done.

“So I think all of us have done our best, and we thank God within the resources and time available, God has helped us, and we have succeeded otherwise we will have been in trouble. So, I thank you very much for the visit, including those who have recently joined the party.

“ I assure you that our intellectuals and historians will be expected to be fair to the APC led Government to examine the time and resources within which we operate so that for those who are looking for positions of excellence in the presidency and the governor does not expose to know the ignorance or lack of political knowledge of the ordinary people and feed them with light”, President Buhari said.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Federal House of Assembly, Femi Gbajabiamila alongside some members from the North and South visited the president to celebrate the Sallah with him in his hometown, Daura.

Reporters were barred from the meeting except camera men.

Governors of Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekikti, Lagos, Osun, Kano, Kebbi, Zamfara and Katsina States were in attendance, they were later joined by Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.
