Mahadi’s bench warrant stands as court reject prayer

By Faith Awa Maji, Katsina

THE Katsina State High Court in its appellate jurisdiction, has rejected the prayer of the Katsina State self acclaimed whistle blower, Mahadi Shehu, to nullify the proceedings of the Upper Shari’a Court 2 which issued a bench warrant against him for his disrespect to its sermons.

Justice Bawale who deliver the ruling on the motion earlier on, filed by Mahadi Shehu challenging the process followed in serving him, said such issue could only be determined in the substantive appeal.

He, however, granted the second prayer to stop the continuation of proceedings of the lower court in the criminal suit instituted by the Secretary to the Katsina State government, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa against the appellant pending the determination of the appeal.

The Judge who delivered the ruling on behalf of the Chairman of the Dutsin-ma Appeals, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar and Justice Ashiru Sani, fixed Monday, 5th July 2021 for hearing of the appeal at Dutsin-ma.

Recall that Mahadi Shehu ran to the High Court to avoid the bench warrant issued against him as well as truncate the proceedings of the Upper Shari’a Court where he was being charged for character assassination and defamation filed by Mustapha Inuwa, the Secretary to the Katsina State Government.
