Katsina Banditry: Police kill 5, repel attack

Katsina State Police Command says it has repelled bandits attack, neutralized 5 and recovered 6 of their operational motorcycles on some communities in Kurfi local government area of the state.

According to the report, on Wednesday, bandits numbering over one hundred and fifty (150), on motorbikes, armed with AK-47 rifles, attacked Wurma and Yarbudu villages, Kurfi LGA.

Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel, stationed at Wurma village, engaged the hoodlums into a fierce gun battle, repelled their attack as one was killed while many others escaped with gunshots wounds and one of their operational motorcycles recovered.

“A team of Police men led by Area Commander, Dutsinma, blocked the escape route of the bandits at Yarbudu village and engaged them into a gun duel. The doggedness, uncommon courage and tactical operational strategy adopted by the Police officers made the bandits to flee into the forest with varying degree of bullets wounds”.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah said, in the course of profiling the scene, four (4) bandits were neutralized and five (5) of their motorcycles were recovered.

In a statement, the PPRO says, the Command urges members of the public to cooperate with security agencies working at the frontline areas by giving them credible information on bandits and their collaborators, especially those supplying them with arms and ammunition, informants and other essential commodities.

It assured the public that the command remain resolute and committed in the ongoing fight against recalcitrant bandits until they are arrested and dealt with according to the extant laws of the land.
